Check out this video of Charlie Parker, the great bebop saxophonist, playing the tune 'Celebrity'. Clarinetists, saxophonists, and flutists pay particular attention to how fast he plays, and how little his fingers move. This is the prime example of positive action (or economy of motion). This applies to brass players too, but it is a better example for woodwinds.
